Drug Addiction Centers

Drug addiction centersChoosing to enroll in a drug treatment program is always a difficult step. To ensure that you choose the best possible treatment option for your addiction, you need to ask the right questions when you call or visit a rehab facility that you are considering enrolling in.  Some of these questions are outlined below.

Does a Drug Rehab Center Offer a Variety of Programs?

Yes and no. One addict will not typically have multiple forms of treatment in a treatment center, but there are some treatment centers that do offer different treatment programs to addicts, and there are others that just specialize in one approach. Treatment centers will often just use one overall treatment mentality, however. Structures offered include:

  • Inpatient
  • Residential
  • Outpatient
  • Short-stay options

What Happens at Drug Addiction Centers?

Most drug rehab programs across the country offer the same essential components — counseling, detox and aftercare.

  • Drug detox. Detox is an essential first step of drug treatment that must come before psychological therapy. This is because psychological counseling is an intensive process. When you’re struggling with the physical components of addiction, you won’t be able to devote your efforts to mental recovery. The detox process varies depending upon the drug and duration of addiction. Most often, it lasts on average one or two weeks. During this time, the toxins from the drug are removed from the body, and addicts will experience withdrawal symptoms that are not pleasant but normal in the drug recovery process.
  • Drug addiction counseling. Counseling is what comes after detox. It allows you to work through and understand the cause of your addiction and address it with professional help. Counseling in rehab often happens in one of the following ways:  one-on-one counseling with a therapist, group counseling with other addicts and family counseling where your family may participate in sessions with you.
  • Aftercare. This is the last part of drug recovery. It sets you up with a support system that you need to remain free of drugs in the long term.  Outpatient rehab programs, sober living facilities and support groups are all forms of aftercare that are beneficial to drug recovery.
