Drug Addiction Intervention
A drug addiction intervention is a meeting in which individuals gather together to help a friend or loved one who is struggling with an addiction or substance abuse problem. Working with a professional interventionist (who helps keep the meeting focused and productive) those in attendance at the meeting will tell the individual in question how their drug addiction has impacted their lives and direct the individual toward drug addiction help.
At the end of the drug intervention, those in attendance should be prepared to take the individual into treatment at a drug rehab facility immediately. For that reason, it is vital to research drug addiction centers in the area before the intervention takes place.
Different Types of Drug Addiction Intervention
Although they all share the same goal (get the individual to understand the depth of their problem and get them into treatment) there are a number of different types of drug addiction intervention, including:
- Family intervention. A family drug intervention is a chance for parents, siblings or adult children to share their feelings about the individual and his or her drug addiction. These are the most common type of intervention, as it usually the family bond that is most greatly impacted by an individual’s drug addiction.
- Friend intervention. Sometimes, family members are not the most appropriate choice for an intervention. Friends can hold an intervention without the familial conflicts that may exist among loved ones.
- Co-worker intervention. Although less common than drug intervention involving family and friends, coworker interventions have gained popularity in recent years. In these instances the focus is on how important a member of the team the individual is – and how important their recovery is to the company as a whole.
