Cocaine Addiction Centers

Cocaine addiction centersCocaine is often used as a party drug, and that sometimes makes people think that the casual use means there are only casual consequences. The reality is that cocaine abuse can create major problems that can last for a long time. They include effects upon the mind and body.

Understanding Cocaine Addiction

If you’re an addict, you need to be aware of the effects of the drug. Cocaine has severe effects upon the brain like:

  • Individuals never feel as good as they do when under the influence of cocaine.
  • In order to feel the same effects they once did when using cocaine, addicts need to increase the amount they use, creating greater risk of overdose.
  • Addicts fall under the cycle of addiction as the use of cocaine changes their impulse control.

If you try to stop using cocaine suddenly, you may experience different withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms can be uncomfortable and may require medical attention.

Cocaine Withdrawal Symptoms

When you are attempting to quit using cocaine, you will progress through a difficult period of withdrawal symptoms that include:

  • Fatigue and exhaustion
  • Depression and thoughts of suicide
  • Irritability with people and situations
  • Restlessness or an inability to concentrate
  • Insomnia
  • Nightmares

Individuals who have been abusing cocaine will experience the above symptoms for a prolonged period of time — in some cases, upwards of a month. This can be dangerous in individuals who try to recover alone as they attempt to self-medicate with alcohol or other drugs to control these symptoms. This can lead to further addiction.

Taking all of the above into consideration, treatment is essential for individuals suffering from cocaine addiction.

Cocaine Addiction Treatment Options

There are a variety  of different options for the treatment of cocaine addiction, but there is no right solution for every addict. Some options to consider include:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). CBT is commonly used in the treatment of cocaine addiction. Its goal is to help addicts recognize their motivation for using drugs in the first place — that way they can quit and maintain long-term sobriety.
  • Community Reinforcement. This technique sets up specific milestones for behaviors that individuals must meet. Essentially, it makes addicts accountable and has had more proven success than other treatment options for cocaine use, according to some experts.
  • The 12 Steps. A 12-step program is a method of drug treatment many addicts are familiar with. This treatment method really relies upon group support from other addicts.
  • Individual Therapy. Many treatment programs offer some individual counseling as part of a more comprehensive curriculum.
